INITIAL STEPS TO BUYING A BUSINESS

	Decide what you know best. What skills, talents and abilities do you possess.
	What do you enjoy doing? What makes you happy? You must be happy to be successful in any endeavor.
	What type of business would really best fit the profile you have begun to develop by answering the questions above.

Be very cautious and do careful due diligence before buying or starting a home business. You, no doubt, have seen the various ads for "home business opportunities" promising $10,000.00 a month or more, all working from your home. Don't believe it - verify it! Do your due diligence for the most part.

HAVE YOU CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING?

	an idea - proven business plan
	a product and guaranteed re-supply
	verified customers for your product
	a means of and plans for distribution.
	checked with local government and zoning officials
	your location within your home
	your family and possible distraction
	the discipline necessary to work from home, etc.

VENDING AND RACK MERCHANDISING

Be very cautious, unless you are buying an existing established vending route, and if this is the situation you must still go forth with your due diligence.

	What is the product, source of, re-supply of, popularity of, perceived value of, along with other factors to be considered.
	Where are the locations?
	Are the locations satisfactory to you?
	Are the locations in high crime areas?
	Are the owners of the locations where machines or racks are located pleased and can you work with them.
	What about the vending machines - repairs, condition, appearances, maintenance requirements. When machines break can and will you repair or will you have to pay for it to be repaired.
	Contracts - Other than your contract to purchase, is there a contract you will be assuming? Examine it with your attorney!
	Will the seller finance? If the seller wants cash - be very careful. You could end up with the vending business in your garage. Remember, do your due diligence

When you buy an established business, you are buying an entity with a track record;

	There is a going business
	There is a location
	There are financial statements (books of records)
	There are customers, suppliers, etc.
	There is Goodwill

In summary, when you consider buying an established business there is a history - something to see, examine and imagine yourself managing. In this instance you are better able to examine tangibles instead of in a start up examining only "what if's".
